Again, on February 6, 1937, Dr. Nichols carried another feature story about the Jerusalem work. The main headline ran across the full page and read: New Bible Implications Foreshadow Armageddon in Near Future. The two subtitles stated: “Research Puts Finis Within 20 Years,” “Americas Involved, According to Prophecy, But Europe is Due for Cataclysmic Upsets With New Empires Born.” (p. 205)

I showed one of the pictures I had of my Cave host standing at the Sanhedrin Cave and said: “Here is the strangest man walking this earth today.” Boake Carter glued his eyes on the prophetic-looking countenance of Moses. (p. 256)

Since the Society’s activities more and more were being conducted unofficially from Boake Carter’s office, we had new stationery printed, using Carter’s 1440 Broadway address and telephone number. (p. 337)

In justification of Moses’ constant demands for more funds for Jerusalem -- making his home needs an even greater emergency than the book itself, the message for the world -- I remembered how my Cave host had frequently made it plain that he could never leave Jerusalem, his wife and children, to go on with his world-wide work, until he was sure that his family would be well supported and taken care of in the future. The implication was, it seemed to me, that once he left Jerusalem he might never again, in the light of biblical fulfillment, be able to keep up the same “human” contact with his family. His duty would be to the world -- and his relationship, I felt, would be like a father to all children on earth. He would silently and unknown to moral go on with his singular work that was to lead to the eventual redemption of mankind. There would be no mother, father, wife, children and so on. He would enter the role of Redeemer of mankind as it was clearly brought out in his research. (pp. 337-8)

From now on I went to the 1440 Broadway office daily and took my place at my desk, which I had moved with the other Society paraphernalia from the uptown “home office.” The address was officially changed and, after having sent out several thousand Boake Carter letters, inquiries and subscriptions began to flow in. Some of the first paid subscriptions to the book received at the new office came from leading Americans such as (President) Herbert Hoover, former ambassador J. P. Kennedy [father of John Fitzgerald Kennedy] , and a score of others. (p. 340)

. . . this was another strange development in the seemingly never-ending strange story of the Jerusalem Cave dweller. At about this time, Temple Cottage was frequently visited by two Hollywood stars who had taken time off from the film colony. They were Madelaine Carroll and Sterling Hayden. Sterling came to see Harold quite often and consulted him on a number of things. Harold first disapproved of Sterling’s desire to marry Madelaine. But, after a while, he not only gave his blessing, but also arranged a secret marriage for them in a small town in New Hampshire.... Harold made special efforts to bring the newlyweds into the new Bible understanding with us. (p. 344-5)

Aber had previously mentioned the need of a visit to California. At this meeting he brought up that subject again. He said it was imperative that he journey there a seek out a certain “stone” which, if found, would bring about instant cure of all chronic diseases. He made it plain that he wasn’t at all
